Your children have had a fabulous full first week back. They have settled really well into the morning routines; please help them by making sure they have their reading books in school everyday.
They have written the familiar story of Little Red Riding Hood so that I have a good idea of what they are capable of and where they need more support. Next week we will start our new literacy unit which will last about three weeks.
Our topic this term is called ‘Turrets and Tiaras’. We have already started to learn about early castles which were built of wood. In art, we have drawn a portrait of Queen Elizabeth I, most of the children said that she looked scary!
In maths, we have been revisiting place value and looking at the tens and ones in a number. This will help them to compare numbers using ‘greater than’, ‘less than’ and ‘equal’. We have talked about what is the same and what is different between two digit numbers using the same digits such as 35 and 53.
Please help your child to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. Later, they will need to know these times tables facts out of order and by instant recall.
The children have a little bit of science home learning this week, they can complete as much or as little as they like. Please keep the learning fun with lots of encouragement. If they find it difficult to record, don’t worry, the discussion about materials and their properties is the most important thing.
I have sent home their first set of spellings, encourage them to have a go. Little and often is the key!
Have a good weekend,
Mrs Dowell, Mrs Armstrong and Miss Harris.
