This week we have started preparing for the forthcoming Jubilee celebrations. We have been learning about the Queen, who she is and where she lives. Reception have listened to the story The Queen’s Hat by Steve Antony, where she chases her hat all around London from Buckingham Palace to Kensington Palace, along, on and through a number of famous landmarks. They have been practising writing simple sentences by writing what they can see in a London scene and planning what they will do for Jubilee.
in Maths Reception have been working on First, then and now addition stories to add two groups, count on and solve missing number problems. Year one have been learning about halving and doubling.
please remember to hear your child read as much as you possibly can and don’t forget to write in the yellow reading record.
Have a lovely weekend.

This week we have started to change the story Mr Gumpy’s Motor Car by thinking of our own modes of transport and then how that might change the events in the story. Reception have been working on writing simple sentences and Year 1 have been focusing on adjectives and correctly punctuating sentences with capital letters and full stops.
In Maths, Reception have continued learning about numbers 11-20, playing lots of games to match objects to numerals, ordering numeral cards and trying to trick each other by mixing them up or removing cards and seeing if their partner can identify what they have done. Year 1 have continued their unit on Multiplication and division, learning about arrays, equal groups, doubles and grouping. Please keep practicing counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and remember the children have access to Mathletics, Numbots and White Rose Minute Maths (all free apps or accessible via a web browser) to practice maths skills and recalling number facts.
Please remember to name ALL jumpers, cardigans and coats. As the weather is warming up, children are tending to remove layers but don’t always remember to put them on their pegs or in their trays/bags. We have accumulated a LOT of un-named jumpers and cardigans in the Reception/Year 1 lost property box, so if your child is missing a jumper or cardigan please ask a member of staff if you can see the lost property.
Have a lovely weekend.

Hello and welcome back! It’s been wonderful seeing the children back after the Easter break and hearing all their news.
Our Theme this term is ‘Are We There Yet?’ covering Travel, Transport and the Seaside. Please see Holly Class Information Page for more information.
Our Literacy unit started with the story of Mr Gumpy’s Motor Car by John Burningham. After some interesting predictions of where the passengers may be going and what might happen to them along the way, the Y1 children have been working on expanding noun phrases, adding adjectives and using linking words to extend their sentences and the Reception children have been writing simple captions and sentences to match pictures from the story.
In Maths Reception have been looking at numbers beyond 10, identifying the pattern of one 10 and a number of 1’s as the numbers increase from 11-20 and beyond. Year 1 have started their unit on multiplication and division and have been recapping counting in 2’s 5’s and 10s in preparation for starting work on making and adding equal groups and making arrays. Don’t forget Y1 children have access to Mathletics and Numbots to help reinforce current and previous learning and embed their knowledge of number facts. Login details are inside the cover of their yellow reading records.
We have begun to talk about different transport and how it has changed over the years and have been learning how the changing seasons affect the hours of daylight as well as the weather, plants and wildlife.
Please remember that the children only have PE on TUESDAYS. School PE kit should be worn on Tuesdays only – white top and dark shorts/joggers with appropriate pumps/trainers. All other days children should be in school uniform.
Please also ensure your child has their reading book and yellow reading record in school EVERY day. Books should always be read at least twice to help children develop their fluency and this should be recorded in their yellow reading records.
As you may have seen the Friends of Crowmoor have set another ‘Coin Challenge’ for the whole school, to see which class can get the most coins in their jar and win a prize for their class! We have until the end of term to try and collect as many coins as we can and see if we can win the prize!
If you have any non-urgent queries about any of the above or have any issues accessing your child’s accounts or your Tapestry account please email Miss Jones on hollya@crowmoorschool.co.uk
Have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend. 🙂 See you Tuesday!

Well what a lovely end to the term. The children have had a lovely fun-filled day full of Easter surprises and treats. Huge thanks to the Friends of Crowmoor for their drink and crisps this afternoon whilst we watched a movie and for their Easter eggs that arrived just before home time.
The children have worked really hard this term and definitely deserve a rest but please keep practicing sounds and reading a little over the holidays so they don’t get out of the habit!
They have come home with lots of bits and bobs today and have emptied their trays in the classrooms so please ensure you go through their bags before returning to school after Easter – you may even find a little something for yourselves in there! 😉
I have promised the children I will keep them posted on the caterpillars as unfortunately they have remained in chrysalis, so if they emerge over the Easter break I will be posting photos and videos on Tapestry for them to see. Don’t forget you can also share things with your child’s teacher by adding an observation onto Tapestry and we always love to see what you’ve been up to.
Have a super break, hope the weather stays fine and everyone has a well deserved rest. See you in a couple of weeks. 🙂

Well another week has flown by and we’ve only four days left next week until the Easter holidays! We’ve been very busy this week consolidating all the maths we’ve learnt this term. It’s really important the children continue working on their number facts and number bonds just to make sure they don’t forget them.
Year 1 have access to Mathletics, (where work is set for them to do) as well as Numbots and White Rose Minute Maths where they can practice in short bursts, just a few minutes at a time to keep the facts fresh in their mind and enhance their mental maths.
Reception can also access the White Rose Minute Maths (it is a free app) to practice subitising and learning bonds to 5 and 10 and have access to Numbots too (logins in back of reading records). These should be accessed for no longer than 5-10 minutes a day.
In Literacy we have read the book Pass the Jam Jim. Year 1 have been working on writing instructions and Reception have been practising their rhyming skills.
The children are really enjoying observing all the Spring changes and watching the seeds they planted in science week start to grow and noticing all the creatures that have started to appear outdoors. We just hope the warm weather comes back again soon!
Just a reminder that PE is only on a Tuesday. Children should be in school uniform on all other days.
Don’t forget next week Wednesday is the deadline for all Easter competition entries and Thursday is a special non-uniform day. Please keep reading and don’t forget to record it in the yellow reading record.
Have a lovely weekend. 😊

We’ve had a super science week this week and learned lots about plants, habitats and what living things need to survive. We also had a visit from the Nature Friendly Schools team who taught us all about the wonderful job worms do and showed us a secret trick to help find them. Make sure you take a look at Tapestry over the weekend to see what we’ve been learning.
Everyone looked fab today all in red, thanks for all your efforts and donations.
Just a reminder that PE is only on Tuesdays now so children should be wearing school uniform on Mondays.
Have a great weekend. Enjoy the sunshine and don’t forget to read! 😊

What a fab and busy week we have had. The trip to the Museum was fabulous and the children did us proud whilst we were out and about. Hopefully you have been able to see the photos on Tapestry. If you are having any issues accessing this please let me know via email on hollya@crowmoorschool.co.uk
Also if your child is in Holly A and you missed your parent consultation this week, please keep an eye out for an email from me with new times on. I have managed to catch most of you I think but if I haven’t please contact me.
In Maths we have been comparing length and height with rulers, as well as adding lengths and heights and finding the difference by subtracting. Reception have also been focusing on adding and subtracting within 10 and recalling their bonds for numbers to 10.
Next week is Science Week and the theme is Growth. We will be doing lots of science activities and investigations over the week and already begun to think about what things need to grow.
Have a lovely weekend and don’t forget to keep reading over the weekend! There will be raffle tickets for every recorded read when books are changed on Tuesday. 🙂

This week we have been reading the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and talking about our favourite parts and characters. We’ve also been using our imaginations to think about what else could be at the top of the beanstalk instead and what alternative treasures the giant could have had.
In maths we have been looking at comparing and measuring height and length and making sure we are using the correct vocabulary to talk about it.
The children all looked fabulous in their outfits yesterday for World Book Day and everyone had a fun-filled day.
Next week, Parents Evening for Holly A is on Monday and Tuesday after school. All Teams appointments have now been sent out so please contact me on hollya@crowmoorschool.co.uk if you’ve not returned a slip to make an appointment or if you would prefer a phone call rather than a Teams meeting. Thank you.
Also on Tuesday, Holly A is going on the trip to Shrewsbury Museum to take part in the Dinosaur Detectives workshop and have a look around the museum. Holly B will be in school in PE kits on Tuesday as normal and will go on the trip on Wednesday. If we have not received your signed permission slip, your child will not be able to join the trip so please return it as soon as possible.
Have a lovely weekend and don’t forget to keep reading! 🙂
