This week we have continued looking at the role of animals in the war. We have learned how they used horses to carry machinery, pigeons to send secret messages and dogs to help sniff out gas and wounded soldiers. We also learned about a special war hero called Sergeant Stubby – the dog soldier! As well as building our number knowledge in maths we have also been looking at making repeating patterns and using positional language. The children went over to the church on Monday for our Harvest Rehearsal and were all super-sensible walking over and all knew how to stay safe when crossing the road when we talked about it. They sat so quietly while we waited and sang brilliantly. We look forward to seeing you at the performance on Monday 22nd October.
Next week is our Stay and Play session – 2pm Wednesday 17th October. If you are unable to attend yourself, other members of the family are always welcome.
The children will have their next set of new sounds in their bags to practice and we will have our last set of single letter sounds next week. After this we will just be focusing on blending to read words before we move on to the digraphs (two letters that make one sound – ch, sh, th, ng etc.) We will also be sending home some ‘tricky’ word bingo games to play next week which will help support them in learning the Phase 2 tricky words I, to, the, no, go, into.
