This week we have coninued our work on electrical circuits, we have made circuits and added a switch.  This took a little working out, but the children showed great resilience and team work.  They were all very pleased with their circuits.  We have also been using primary colours to mix secondary colours and paint our own pictures.  The children enjoyed painting and were super at tidying up after themselves!

Next week we will be making collages, please collect and send in any sweet wrappers, old magazines, foil or ribbon etc that the chilren can use to make their pictures.

Hazel class had a fantastic time at Cosford Air Museum.  We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to sit in the cock pit of different fighter jets and to meet Gulf War veterans who had actually flown the aircraft.  The children enjoyed chatting to them and hearing their stories about the aircraft.  We experienced the Blitz in a WW II classroom and went into the shared school shelter when the air raid siren sounded.  Some of the children chose to dress up in RAF uniforms, try on gas masks and go into the Morrison shelter.  The staff at Cosford were complimentary about the children’s knowledge and behaviour.  Hazel class were amazing throughout the whole day.  Back in school some of the written comments from the children have been inspiring to read.

” I loved going in the Phantom jet, I was nervous but excited too.”

” It was the best day of my life and I want to go again.”

We are all glad the children enjoyed the day and would like to thank the Friends of Crowmoor for funding our coach!

This week Hazel Class have been enjoying reading our class text and linking it to our knowledge of WW II.  We have also written our own predictions for what will happen next in the text.  We arre looking forward to finding out who will be correct next week.  We have been practising our times tables and division facts.  We are getting much quicker with our recall of these fact families.  In art we have been mixing colours and making colour palettes.  We will be using these to paint pictures next week.

Remember we are off to Cosford Museum on Wednesday, the children will need to bring their pack lunck in a ruck sack as we are out all day.  This means we will have PE on Monday and Tuesday next week.

Another busy week! We have enjoyed continuing our class text and the children are all becoming more confident in using their reading to answer questions.  We have been working on character descriptions, using the information from our text. In maths we have been completing multiplication and division problems.  We have been grouping and sharing to find the inverse.  We have made circuits using bulbs, wires and batteries.  The children were amazing at working out how to set up their circuit and which materials would conduct the electricity.

Thank you to everyone in Hazel class for making such an amazing effort for Children in Need today.

Remember PE is Monday and Wednesday until Christmas.

It was lovely to see all of the children back in school, looking refreshed after their half term break.  This week we have started reading our new class text ‘Friend or Foe’ by Michael Morpurgo.  The children are already invested in the text and have begun some super character descriptions about David the main character.  We have been busy using skills learnt from our Navigator visit last half term, while using atlases and identifying places on maps as part of our Geography.  We made some ovely animated flip books in computing, which the children brought home to share with you.  In science our new topic is light and this week we thought about light sources and what dark actually is.

This week we have been busy reading and understanding our class text ‘D-Day Dog’ by Tom Palmer.  We have been thinking carefully about the vocabulary used and what it means, also how the author tells the story of D-Day through present day characters.  We have finished our letters to Rose and today we typed up a ‘best’ copy.  We are getting much more confident when editing and improving our writing.

We have been using column addition and subtraction to solve various problems crossing through 10’s and 100’s.  We have been practising our timestables and number bonds too! This week we learned about electro magnets and their uses, we were surprised to find that door bells use electro magnets. We have created our own pictures showing how God is depicted in paintings.

This week we have been learning about conjunctions and how to use them to join sentences, we have even improved sentences from our class story.  We have been using commas in lists and spotted them in our reading books.  We are all working hard to keep our handwritting neat too.  We have planned our letters to Rose and will be writing them next week.  In Maths we have been using our known number facts to help us solve problems, including addition and subtraction sentences up to 1000.  We have been looking at the value of digits in numbers and what they are worth.

This week we investigated the types of reflections we see in concave and convex surfaces.  The children had lots of fun playing with the mirrors.  We have also found out how basic computer networks share information and looked at how to keep ourselves safe on line.

This week we have been identifying the features of letters and how letters are set out.  We will be writting our own letters in the coming weeks.  We have been practising how to use commas in lists and have tried not to use ‘and’ so often.  In maths we have been adding and subtracting through 10’s and 100’s.  We are also practising our timestables.

Today we had a visit from the Fire Service.  The children learned about fire safety in the home, what to do in an emergency and all about Stop, Drop and Roll – with a few volunteers! This was a great visit and the children have each been given an evacuation plan to complete at home.  I am sure lots of you will be being asked to test your fire alarms!
