This week the children have started to look at the features of newspaper reports. They will be writing a newspaper report about their trip to Sealife. They have already come up with some snappy headlines to catch the reader’s attention: ‘Turtle Tantrums’, ‘Elm’s Underwater Adventure’ and ‘Gentle Jellies’ are just a few examples.
In maths we have continued to learn how multiplication is linked to division. The children are finding out the importance of knowing their times tables if they are to be successful with division. Please help them as much as possible. Those who are working well have been giving tips to other children. Next week we will be spending time applying what we have learnt to solving problems.
I continue to be impressed with the facts that the children can recall about Significant Explorers. They are fascinated by the stories of survival and the comparisons with the expeditions of Matthew Henson and Ernest Shackleton over 100 years ago and Felicity Aston just 10 years ago.
They are experiencing a wide variety of ways to create sculptures by looking at the work of a range of artists. This week we used plastic cups, forks and spoons to build installations which can be deconstructed and moved to a new location. They are learning to be patient with themselves and resilient when things don’t go to plan or they find something tricky.
Spelling scores are improving each week which is great news. Some have been disappointed this week as we were quite strict on making sure ‘Monday’ and ‘Tuesday’ begin with a capital letter. This will be the same next Friday when they spell ‘Wednesday’ and ‘Thursday’. Handwriting has improved but needs to be consistent, all the children know how to form letters correctly. They need to show this in their writing.
Have a great weekend, please keep reading little and often. It make a massive difference to their fluency.
