Elm Newsletter 1.4.21

This week we have completed our non fiction writing about polar animals. All the children have learnt lots of interesting facts. Did you know that penguins can dive for up to twenty minutes?

In maths we have been learning about halves and quarters. All the children need to practice their 2, 5 and 10 times tables so that they can recall facts quickly.

After Easter we will return to weekly spellings. In the meantime, please continue to read little and often. PE will only be on Tuesdays from now on so please remember to be in PE kit on the first day back (20.4.21)

Please have a fabulous Easter holidays. Hopefully, we will have some good weather even though we are expecting snow on Monday!

Elm Newsletter 26.3.21

Your children have worked extremely hard completing assessments this week. It has been tough at times but they have all tried their best and I’m very proud of them, well done!

We will spend next week writing our information pages about the polar animals that we have been researching. They will also have the opportunity to illustrate their work.

In maths we will be going back to basics and practising their recall of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Please help your child by encouraging them to count in 2s, 5s and 10s as often as possible. They also need to learn these times tables facts out of order.

Please continue to send children with coats to wear at playtime. They spend a lot of time sat at a desk so it’s important that we can get outside even if it’s a bit damp and chilly!

Enjoy the weekend, only four more school days until the Easter Holidays!

Elm Newsletter 19.3.21

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in Red Nose Day. All the children enjoyed telling jokes to the their friends, we all had a giggle!

On Monday we received a mystery package addressed to the class. When we opened it there were two polar bears! Everyone wrote some questions asking where the delivery had come from? Who sent them? Were they hungry? What do they eat?

We have been using books and iPads to research about polar animals so that we can make our own Class Information Book.

In maths, we have been going over some of the learning we did during lockdown to make sure we could remember how to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Next week is Assessment Week, the children will be completing lots of assessment tasks to find out what they know and what they need help with.

I haven’t set any spellings as they will be having a 20 word spelling test as part of their assessment. These will be words we have already learnt during the year.

Have a fab weekend,

Mrs Dowell

Elm Newsletter 12.3.21

We have had a fabulous first week back after lockdown, well done everyone!

All the children have taken part in science week and had a wonderful time. I’m sure that they have told you all about what we have been finding out. Today they insulated a jar to keep the water warm. We measured the temperature using a thermometer,

Please remember to come in PE kit on Monday and Tuesday.

There are no spellings this week as the children all need a rest at the weekend, they’re very tired!

Have a fab weekend,

Mrs Dowell

Elm Newsletter 5.3.21

Well, we’ve finally made it through to when all the children can return to school. I’m really looking forward to welcoming you all back along with two new arrivals! Remember to bring in any work that you have done at home, we would love to see it and hopefully give out some CROW certificates!

Next week is Science Week so I am hoping to spend some time outside. Please bring wellies into school for the whole week.

Until Easter, we will be having PE on Monday and Tuesday so please come to school in jogging bottoms, t-shirt, jumper and trainers. The weather is a bit warmer but we still need to have good ventilation in the classrooms so layers would still be a good idea.

Please continue to bring in book bags, with reading books and reading records, as we will still be starting the day with some reading. The children will be completing some Star Reader assessments so that we can keep an eye on where they are.

There will be no new spellings this week, please spend the weekend making the most of any good weather we have!

See you all on Monday!

Elm Remote Learning 1.3.21

Hello,

Well that was a quick half term break! We are on the countdown to a full return to school on Monday 8th March. It will be great to have everyone back together!

In class, we are really enjoying the story of ‘The Eagle who thought he was a Chicken’. Imagine the surprise for Mother Hen when she hatched two eaglets!

Next week we will continue with the lessons so that we can complete the units before we come back to school.

When the children return, it will be Science Week. Please bring in wellies to stay in school for the whole week so that we can go outside as much as possible. Don’t worry if you do not have any as we have a few spares in school.

Here is the timetable and the spellings:

Week 8 1.3.21- Elm.

Weekly Spellings 26.2.21

Please start to gather up all your work that you have done over lockdown so that you can bring it in to school.

Stay safe,

Mrs Dowell

Elm Newsletter 12.2.21

Congratulations, we’ve made it to half term! It’s been a strange one.

I want to say ‘Thank you’ for all your support over the past six weeks. We all miss the contact with the children and this is what has made it so difficult in school. The emails and TEAMs meetings have made sure we keep in touch and enabled you to share what your children have been up to. Mrs Armstrong and I love seeing your photos and messages, you have so many stories to tell! It is so important that the children still feel connected to school. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we are back together.

Please have a fabulous but safe half term. Remember, you’re doing a great job!

Mrs Dowell and Mrs Armstrong

P.S. Here are the spellings for the week after half term

Elm Remote Learning 8.2.21

It has been so good to see so many of you on the TEAMS video chat this week, thank you for your patience!

In maths, well done completing the statistics unit, we’ve now started some work on geometry. In literacy we have written instructions to defeat a fire giant (if you ever meet one) and are now beginning to learn about a story called Baba Yaga.

Here is the learning for next week. We’re coming to the end of our science work about habitats and I may send out a short quiz for the children to complete.

Week 6 8.2.21- Elm.

Elm Remote Learning Week 5 1.2.21

Hello everyone, I hope that you are all well and staying safe.

It’s been great to see more of you on the TEAMS video link. If you are still having trouble then please let me know and we’ll try to help out. The weekly meeting times are Wednesday at 2pm and Friday at 1pm depending which group your child is in. If you cannot make either of these times then please let me know and I’ll try to arrange something. It’s really important that we have live contact with the children; it helps to break up the monotony of lockdown!

Here is the learning for Week 5;

Weekly Spellings 29.1.21

Week 5 1.2.21 – Elm.

Remember, let me know your spelling score; I’m still writing raffle tickets!

Have a good weekend & keep in touch,

Mrs Dowell & Mrs Armstrong
