Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have started the week with an assembly about how to look after our teeth. Shropshire Community Health answered lots of the children’s questions about healthy eating and how to clean our teeth properly.

What a warm week it’s been! Following up from our visit from the Exotic Zoo last week we have been writing riddles for different animals to see if other people could guess what we were writing about. The children have written some great clues and drawn some super pictures that we are going to put up on a display. We will be sharing them on Tapestry so watch this space!
In Maths we have been learning about sharing equally between two, three and even four groups and finding out about which numbers can and can’t be shared, depending on how many groups you are sharing them into. Through doing this we have revisited identifying odd and even numbers as well as doubles.
The children have also started practising for Sports Day – a letter was sent home this week about it but in case you missed it, it will be on TUESDAY 5th JULY at 2pm. If the children are unsure of the name of their house the colours are Haughmond – red, Caradoc – blue, Wrekin – yellow and Grinshill – green.
Please don’t forget to send in any spare change you may have for the coin challenge. It would be great to raise as much as we can for the Friends after they paid for the children to have such a lovely experience last week when the Exotic Zoo came.
If you have any non-urgent queries, please remember you can email me on the class email hollya@crowmoorschool.co.uk or speak with me on the playground once all the children have been dismissed at the end of the day. All urgent queries should be directed to the office on 235549.
Have a lovely weekend.

We have had a super week learning more about the seaside and the creatures that live in rock pools or around the seaside. We also discussed other animals that would NOT live there and why. Yesterday we had our very exciting visitors from the Exotic Zoo in Telford and learnt even more about some very unusual creatures – Milly the Millipede, Tiny the Tortoise, Eddie the ball python (or royal python as they’re better known), Jabba the Bullfrog, Woody the Armadillo and a very cute creature called Henry who is a Tenrec, although at first we all thought he was a cute hedgehog! Take a look at Tapestry to see more. If you have any issues accessing Tapestry please let me know. You can contact me on hollya@crowmoorschool.co.uk or see me on the playground.
We had a wonderful morning and cannot thank the Friends enough for paying for that for us. We haven’t managed to get many pennies in our jar for the coin challenge yet, so it would be lovely to see if we could fill it up a bit more before the end of term so they can continue to support us with arranging such lovely things in future.
In Maths we have been learning about doubling, looking for doubles in dominoes and playing doubles games. The children have also enjoyed working on their subitising and fact recall playing on their Numbots accounts.
Please don’t forget to read with your child and record in their yellow reading record. It is really important for them to read and re-read books so they can recognise more and more words by sight. With regular practice at home they will make greater progress and become more fluent. Even if they do not read the whole book just a few pages a day will help. Thank you.
Have a lovely weekend.

Exotic Zoo visit – Reception
We had a wonderful visit from some animals from the Exotic Zoo this morning. Miss Jones had been keeping it quiet so it was a wonderful surprise for the children.
A HUGE thank you to the Friends of Crowmoor for funding this for us.
We all had a lovely morning and learnt so much!
Keep an eye out on Tapestry for more photos! 😊

We’ve had a super first week back after half term and the children have settled back into routine straight away. We have started learning and talking about the seaside and our experiences of it, as this half term we are beginning to think more about the Summer season and holidays! The children have been brilliant at remembering some of our previous learning, telling me that the beach is on the coast around the outside of the United Kingdom, where the land meets the water and they also remembered all 4 countries that make up the UK! 🙂
In literacy we have been concentrating on writing simple sentences about the beach and have been encouraging the children to use their sounds and form their letters correctly. We have also been practicing reading and writing level 2 and 3 ‘tricky’ words. They have some in their bags to practice.
In Maths we have continued our First, Then, Now subtraction stories and have been talking about ‘flat’ 2D shapes, learning their names and describing their properties. All children have been now been set up on, and introduced to, a Maths app to practice their subitising skills (recognising small numbers of objects without counting) and addition facts. There is a letter in their bags explaining what it is and how to access it and their logins are also in the back of their reading records. If you have any queries about this please feel free to contact me via the class email hollya@crowmoorschool.co.uk
Please remember to read as much as possible with your child, little and often is best and the more they practice the more confident and fluent they will become. Don’t forget to record in their yellow reading record so we can award their raffle tickets and they can win a prize!
Have a lovely weekend!

We’ve had a busy week in Year One this week getting ready for our picnic to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The children have been making crowns, bunting, flags, and a portrait of The Queen.
In literacy, the children have been writing a letter and card to The Queen. In Maths, we have looked at position, direction, and money.
We hope you have a great half term.
See you on Tuesday 7th June.

We’ve had a fab time this week preparing for our Jubilee celebrations. We started the week by joining Steve Antony (author and illustrator of The Queen’s Hat and The Queen’s Handbag) for a live draw along special for the Jubilee. The children’s drawings were so fantastic we decided to use them as our Jubilee canvas art.
They have also made flags, bunting, cards to congratulate the Queen on her Platinum Jubilee, designed a commemorative plate and written a list of things for a Jubilee party .
They’ve really enjoyed learning about the Queen, her life, and especially her corgis!
They are super excited about the picnic today and we are really looking forward to celebrating together. We hope you have a lovely half term break and look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday 7th June.
